International Students

Welcome, Bienvenue!

The Université des Mascareignes (UdM) goes well beyond its borders, in the Indian Ocean, Western and Central Africa region. Currently, different nationalities are represented among our students on the campuses forming around more than 17% of the whole student population.

Studying at UdM opens up an interesting multicultural experience to its students. In addition to the benefits of studying in such a beautiful island with a mild tropical climate, international students are sure to enjoy uncovering the multiple aspects of Mauritian society, made up of a blend of Indian, African, Chinese and European culture. Students are also set to enjoy discovering other cultures as they meet their fellow international students on UdM campuses.

UdM is the home of a community of more than two hundred international students coming from 7 different African countries (the bulk of which is mainly from Madagascar with others coming from Cameroon, Congo DRC, Comoros, Burundi, Rwanda and Ivory Coast).

We are the public university in Mauritius with the largest proportion of foreign students (more than seventeen percent of the total). In 2019, more than ninety students joined the UdM international community in the three faculties of ICT, Sustainable Development and Engineering and Business and Management.

We are at your service!

Every year, UdM welcomes new international students. A team of dedicated staff members make it a point to assist prospective students from the moment they apply for admission, through the immigration process until the start of their studies on campus.

UdM is a place where knowledge is shared and professional skills are taught. Faculty members support and help students throughout their learning experience. In addition to attending lectures, students are automatically entitled to industrial attachment in the course of their studies.

One of the perks of studying in Mauritius is that international students can benefit from free public transportation. They also have access to a quality healthcare and medical facilities in Mauritius.

Study abroad

Because international experience makes it possible to develop soft skills essential for the professional and personal development of students, the Université des Mascareignes strongly encourages students to do internships or study trips abroad.
In all departments of the University, 3rd year internships can be planned in France and supported by funding from Erasmus+. A call for applications is thus launched each year in October-November for internships in France in the second semester.
Thanks to the privileged partnership with the University of Limoges, the 2 best students in 3rd year of GEMA and the 3 best students in 3rd year of GEII can be admitted for further studies at the ENSIL-ENSCI Engineering School of the University of Limoges (https://www.ensilensci.unilim.fr/).The selections take place each year during the months of April-May. The selection process for the most deserving students is conducted by a panel of academics of the respective departments, chaired by the Head of Department (HOD). The candidates are graded on the basis of their first year, second year and fifth semester examination marks, letter of motivation, interview scores and contribution to university extra-curricular activities. It is to be noted that only candidates having a score of a minimum of 13/20 marks and who are among the first four toppers of their promotions are considered for selection.
The 5 selected students can benefit from a joint scholarship from the French Embassy and the UdM, allowing them to be exempt from registration fees in France, to benefit from the French status of scholarship students (and social security) and to receive a monthly allowance of € 700 during the 3 years of study in France
